Listened to a ghost story on iPlayer this morning. Called Bad Memories.
Basically, family of three are found dead in a cellar. Along with two other bodies. One of them was a ghost hunter who'd been visiting on the night the family died, and the other body was that of an unidentified female. However, the bodies were just skeletons, and, when DNA testing was carried out, it was discovered that they'd been stabbed to death in 1926. HOWEVER...the family was alive and well in 2004. So how could they have died in 1926?
It turns out that the previous family who'd lived there were stabbed to death in 1926. By the youngest daughter, who, at the time was only nine years old.
Various recordings have been found, and the police start deciphering them, with the help of a woman who is good at cleaning up any interference in the sound recordings. They found that a number of sounds that can't be heard normally have been picked up by the digital recorder the ghost hunter used. But...some of those noises can't be heard very clearly.
Near the end, they discover that the little girl, Mary, was taken into care after her family had been killed. She remained in the mind set of a nine year old girl, was moved from hospital to hospital, and eventually died on in November 2004. An hour before the family and visitor were killed. On the recorder, there's the sound of a young girl's voice saying "I'm home."
The woman who helps the police later goes to the house. Her phone rings, and she answers it. However, the policeman on the other end can't hear her because of the screaming. Her screaming. It turns out that she's the fifth body.
It honestly sent several chills up my spine. The sound effects seemed a little OTT first, but then they did actually lend atmosphere to the story.
